The X app for iOS has launched a built-in video editor aimed at encouraging users to create original content instead of reposting popular clips. This move seeks to enhance X’s competitiveness against video-focused platforms like TikTok. The new video editor features options for overlay captions in multiple languages and includes a green screen feature.
Nikita Bier, head of product at X, stated, “One of our biggest priorities is to give creators the tools to create original content & reward those creators.” He also mentioned in a post that more updates for the video editor are expected in the coming weeks.
According to TechCrunch, X is currently in the process of rebuilding its Android app, and the video editor is likely to be available there as well. The addition of the video editor follows previous updates, including a video reaction function and a $1 million allocation for payouts to live video streamers.
In April, Bier indicated that X aims to reduce the visibility of reposts and content from other platforms. He advised users to “record original videos with your own voice over,” highlighting the platform’s push for unique content creation.
X’s strategy to increase original video content may also benefit Grok, which utilizes public content from X for its training purposes.
