Sony is set to remove nine titles from the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalogs on August 18, including “Dead Island 2” and “Harold Halibut.” This update comes after five titles were originally scheduled for removal in July but had their departure extended to August. The games leaving the service also include “Bomber Crew,” “Clash: Artifacts of Chaos,” “Onee Chanbara Origin,” “Roki,” “Space Crew: Legendary Edition,” “Earth Defense Force 6,” and “Unicorn Overlord.”
Subscribers have until August 18 to enjoy or purchase these titles. Beginning July 21, new additions to the PS Plus Extra and Premium catalogs will include “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora,” “Rise of the Ronin,” “Firefighting Simulator: Ignite,” “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind,” “Dying Light,” “Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector,” and “Snow Bros. Wonderland.” Premium subscribers will also gain access to “Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy” and “Indigo Prophecy.”
Notably recommended titles from both the outgoing and incoming lists include “Dead Island 2,” “Harold Halibut,” “Dying Light,” and “Citizen Sleeper 2.” It is important to note that this catalog update is separate from the monthly games available for PS Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium subscribers, which can be downloaded from July 7 to August 3, including “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III,” “For the King II,” and “CrossCode.”
Sony has indicated plans to cease production of disc-based games by 2028, which suggests that the upcoming PS6 will not support physical media. This shift aligns with industry trends moving toward online and cloud-based marketplaces, with other companies like Xbox and Nintendo also focusing on digital purchases.
