Roblox announced plans to launch a mobile feature called Build, which utilizes AI tools for game creation based on natural language prompts. This new system aims to make game development accessible on smartphones and tablets for the first time.
The public alpha of Build will begin on July 28, initially available to users in New Zealand. Roblox plans to expand the feature to additional regions in the following months. Users must be age 9 and above to access the Build tools.
Creations developed through Build that pass safety checks will be made available globally to users aged 16 and older. Roblox has previously faced challenges with its age verification systems but launched restricted account tiers last month to address these concerns.
Build will utilize a combination of open-source and proprietary AI models as part of its toolset. The effectiveness of Build as an AI application remains uncertain as the company navigates potential user engagement and safety issues.
An update on July 16 clarified the initial availability of the public alpha solely in New Zealand.
