A Brazilian court has ruled that Microsoft must restore a suspended Xbox account and digital library belonging to a gamer known as Ordo_Liberal. The court found that Microsoft had improperly revoked the account after it was hacked. Ordo_Liberal reported the decision on Reddit, stating that Microsoft froze access due to “unauthorized access” and declared a permanent suspension was the only solution.

Ordo_Liberal chose to file a lawsuit against Microsoft instead of creating a new account, which would have required starting a digital library from scratch. The gamer explained that hiring a public defendant in Brazil incurred no costs due to the country’s consumer protection laws.

The court mandated that Microsoft restore Ordo_Liberal’s account within 15 days or incur a daily penalty of 150 reais (approximately $30), capped at 1,500 reais (around $300). Additionally, Microsoft must pay 2,000 reais, roughly $400, in damages to Ordo_Liberal.

This ruling represents a significant legal precedent regarding digital account protections in Brazil, even though its financial implications may not match those of class action lawsuits. The decision illustrates the potential for consumer rights surrounding digital platforms as more users express concerns over digital-only libraries.
