Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold 2 launch may be delayed beyond its initial schedule due to unspecified cost-related issues, according to a leak from Korean leaker Lanzuk (yeux1122). The same leak suggests that Samsung’s slidable smartphone could debut sooner than anticipated. The information originates from sources within Samsung’s supply chain.
Lanzuk indicated that development of the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 continues, including a redesign featuring a new hinge. This updated mechanism aims to reduce the device’s thickness and weight. While the current Galaxy Z TriFold measures 12.9mm thick and weighs 309g, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is slimmer at 8.9mm thick and 215g. A thinner design would enhance the device’s portability and usability.
In contrast, the rumored slidable phone is now expected to launch in the first half of 2028. This device will utilize a rollable OLED panel and expand by pulling part of its display out from within the chassis, rather than relying on a hinge mechanism. Samsung Display has showcased various slidable technology concepts but has yet to commercially release a device.
Both the delay of the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 and the earlier arrival of the slidable phone have not been confirmed by Samsung. The claims from Lanzuk suggest a potential shift in Samsung’s product roadmap, with increasing emphasis on the slidable smartphone despite ongoing developments for the TriFold 2.
