OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Work, a new desktop app that integrates productivity tools including ChatGPT, the Codex coding agent, and the Atlas web browser. This release follows public development that began in March and groundwork initiated in April.
ChatGPT Work is powered by OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 models. The technology was delayed previously due to regulatory issues during the Trump administration. Users can access the new app through a redesigned ChatGPT platform that consolidates the features of ChatGPT, the new agent, and Codex.
The app supports task scheduling, enabling users to initiate and monitor assignments remotely via mobile or desktop. The integration allows ChatGPT Work to move files between applications and web browsers as needed.
A new unified plugin directory connects ChatGPT Work with various applications. Users can type “@” followed by an app’s name to access its functionalities. The app can also analyze Slack updates and generate summaries of received messages.
The updated desktop app features a built-in browser for information retrieval and can generate web apps through a function named Sites. “Sites are useful when you want to create things like live dashboards, project trackers, launch calendars, prototypes, internal portals, and interactive reports,” OpenAI stated.
OpenAI plans to discontinue the Atlas web browser, with a target date for deprecation set for August 9. The rollout of ChatGPT Work began today, and OpenAI expects to complete the launch within 24 hours.
All users with free accounts can access ChatGPT Work through the desktop app, which is available for Mac and Windows. Plus and Pro subscribers can utilize ChatGPT Work through both the web client and the desktop app.
