Google is enhancing transparency around generative AI use in advertisements through new features in its My Ad Center. A section titled “How this ad was made” will provide information on ads displayed globally across Google Search, YouTube, and Discover.
When Google’s AI tools are employed to create or modify an ad, a disclosure will be automatically included in the My Ad Center panel. Brands using other tools for ad creation will have the option to disclose their use of generative AI in the panel, although Google’s language suggests this may be voluntary rather than mandatory. In certain regions, local regulations may necessitate a label indicating AI use if the option is activated.
Google emphasizes the need for clarity regarding altered media in advertisements to give prospective buyers an accurate understanding of the products. “We want to help people better understand the ads they see, while providing advertisers with straightforward tools to navigate evolving industry standards,” a company blog post stated.
