Xbox is testing support for longer gamertags, allowing Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring to create usernames of up to 15 characters. This marks a return to a previous character limit after Xbox reduced the maximum to 12 characters based on player feedback. The expanded length applies only if the desired gamertag is unique and available; if it requires additional numbers for differentiation, the limit reverts to 12 characters.

The company will maintain the 12-character limit for gamertags that include non-Latin characters. Alongside the gamertag updates, Xbox has introduced game hubs for Xbox 360 titles. Insiders can now view their achievement progress and captures on game cards, along with detailed information about achievements for these older games.

Another new feature allows Insiders to play games while updates are being downloaded, provided the title is available through their Game Pass membership. A direct option to start cloud gaming while an update downloads will appear on the game card. Additionally, players can now add both released and upcoming games to their wishlist directly from the game cards.

Although the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring is invite-only, players interested in joining can express their interest via the Insider Hub on their console. To do so, they must select “Activities” and complete a survey under the “Joining new rings” option. Microsoft evaluates factors such as the quality of feedback provided and gaming activity to determine invite eligibility.
