Capcom is set to release a significant update, Ver. 1.021, for Monster Hunter Wilds on August 13 (scheduled for August 12, 2025, at 7:30 PM PT), addressing community feedback and expanding the game’s endgame content. Director Yuya Tokuda issued a letter of apology to the community, acknowledging the current state of the game and outlining the improvements.
The 1.021 update introduces 9 Monsters and Talismans, alongside comprehensive weapon balance adjustments, quality-of-life enhancements, and various optimizations. The update requires approximately 3 GB of space on PlayStation 5, 2 GB on Xbox Series X|S, and 2 GB on Steam (or 6 GB with the High Resolution Texture Pack).
A key focus for Capcom is improving “stability” for the PC version, which has garnered “mostly negative” recent reviews on Steam. Tokuda apologized for delays in these fixes, noting that not all stability improvements are included in the 1.021 patch but remain a priority for future updates.
The decision to expedite the endgame content expansion, originally planned for Title Update 3, was made following “soft sales” of Monster Hunter Wilds. This accelerated release aims to address the community’s desire for more robust endgame experiences, which many players felt were lacking compared to previous titles in the series. Capcom has also committed to ongoing improvements, with Title Update 3 slated for late September and Title Update 4 for this winter. The fourth update is expected to introduce new monsters and potentially additional weapon-related endgame features.
Major Additions and Changes in Update 1.021:
- Monsters: At HR 100 or higher, tempered versions of nine monsters—Rey Dau, Uth Duna, Nu Udra, Jin Dahaad, Gore Magala, Arkveld, Mizutsune, Lagiacrus, and Seregios—will now appear as 9 quests. Regular and tempered versions of Rey Dau and Nu Udra will also appear in the Wounded Hollow at HR 100 or higher. The appearance rate of standard monsters at HR 100 and higher has been slightly increased.
- Player: A new appraisal item, Glowing Stone, has been added. This item is obtained as a reward from 9 monster quests and, upon quest completion, yields a talisman with random skill attributes. Unlike crafted talismans, Appraised Talismans cannot be upgraded but can randomly grant armor skills, weapon skills, and decoration slots, promoting build diversity. The upgrade limit for armor of rarity 5 and above has also been increased.
- System: New features include the ability to hide/show specific ammo and coatings in the Ammo/Coatings Bar, a new Recoil Aim Assist option, and the capability to set weapons, armor, and talismans as Favorites. Favorited items will display a star icon, can be sorted by Favorites in equipment boxes, and trigger a confirmation message if players attempt to sell or use them as melding material. Directional input responsiveness on the World Map has been improved.
- Bases and Facilities: A new feature related to Appraised Talismans has been added to the Melding Pot. The duration of meal effects from Portable BBQ Grill meals, Meal Invitations, and Canteen meals has been increased to better support longer hunts against challenging monsters.
Bug Fixes and Balance Adjustments:
- Monsters: Fixes include rectifying issues where Focus Strikes could fail near exposed weak points and where it was difficult to cause wounds while mounted on Blangonga and Ajarakan.
- Player (General): An issue preventing item use via shortcut while recovering from damage or evading with a drawn weapon has been fixed. Damage scaling during mounts has been adjusted, reducing damage reduction applied to non-mounted players’ attacks. An issue where the wet status was not removed when retrying an Arena Quest has also been resolved.
- Underwater Hunting: Players can now chain into an evade from ascending/descending movement and use items during these movements. An issue preventing item use in Focus Mode underwater has been fixed.
- Weapon Balance Changes: Upward adjustments have been implemented for 11 weapon types: Great Sword, Long Sword, Sword & Shield, Dual Blades, Hunting Horn, Lance, Switch Axe, Charge Blade, Insect Glaive, Light Bowgun, and Heavy Bowgun. The Gunlance and Bow will receive bug fixes only.
- Great Sword: Easier chaining into Tackle from combos, faster chaining into Side Blow from Leaping Wide Slash, and faster chaining into True Charged Slash from Strong Wide Slash. Raw damage and elemental scaling for various charged slashes and strong wide slashes have been increased.
- Long Sword: Reduced delay when chaining into Iai Spirit Slash from Special Sheathe, with a slightly extended window for performing it.
- Sword & Shield: Counter Slash raw damage increased. Previous downward adjustments to Guard Slash from Title Update 2 will be revisited with a slight power increase.

Increased effect duration for Perfect Evade in Demon Boost Mode, increased movement speed during Demon Mode, and slightly extended Perfect Evade window. Improved responsiveness of directional changes for Screw Slicer in Focus Mode.
- Hunting Horn: Hilt Stab now has armor properties and can be chained from more actions. Echo Bubble can now be chained from Offset Melody, Resounding Melody, or Encore. Fixed issues with connecting Focus Strike: Reverb.
- Lance: Further reduced damage taken in Power Guard. Increased raw damage and elemental scaling for Retribution Thrust after Perfect Guard. Increased raw damage and elemental scaling for Wide Sweep, Reverse Attack, Finishing Thrust, Finishing Twin Thrust, and Counter Rush. Charge Counter can now be chained after Perfect Guard or minimal knockback Guards. Various thrust attacks have increased elemental scaling or raw damage. Retribution Thrust hitbox enlarged. Extended travel distance for Leaping Thrust, Return Thrust, and Payback Thrust. Quicker transition from Wide Sweep into Mid Thrust, High Thrust, and Dash Attack. Reduced sharpness consumption for Focus Strike: Victory Thrust. Follow-up attacks after winning a Power Clash are now possible. Fixed issues with guarding while moving and certain attacks during Power Guard.
- Gunlance: Fixed an issue where Burst Fire with Load Shells Lv 2 active resulted in fewer hits than intended.
- Switch Axe: Relaxed offset detection for Axe: Offset Rising Slash, making it easier to trigger offset attacks, and increased offset buildup.
- Charge Blade: Increased raw damage for Axe: Element Discharge I and II. Increased raw damage for multi-hit attacks in Power Axe Mode. Adjusted Axe: Element Discharge I and II to properly reflect enhanced phial effects in Power Axe Mode. Revisiting previous downward adjustments to Amped Element Discharge from Title Update 2.
- Insect Glaive: Relaxed offset detection for easier offset attacks. Increased invulnerability window when vaulting backwards and increased distance for vaulting backwards with Evade Extender. Increased raw damage for Strong Reaping Slash and Dodge Slash. Increased raw damage and elemental scaling for Strong Double Slash and Tornado Slash. Fixed lower than intended attack power for midair combo. Improved hit detection for Focus Thrust: Leaping Strike and now retrieves extracts on hit. Fixed incorrect extract colors from Rathalos parts and varying mount buildup from Jumping Advancing Slash. Fixed issues with unintended actions triggering after getting up. Fixed an issue where the Kinsect would repeatedly hit a monster if the player took damage during Strong Jumping Slash in Focus Mode.

Increased reload speed for Adhesive Ammo and Focus Blast: Eagle Strike. Slightly increased raw damage and elemental scaling for elemental ammo. Decreased Rapid Fire Gauge consumption for Dragon Ammo in Rapid Fire Mode. Increased Rapid Fire Gauge recovery for Pierce Ammo. Fixed an issue where only one projectile from Spread Ammo received Ballistics skill scaling. Revisiting previous downward adjustments to elemental and pierce ammo from Ver. 1.011.
- Heavy Bowgun: Increased raw damage for Wyvernblast Ignition and Wyverncounter Ignition. Increased scaling for these during Ignition Mode ST I and ST II. Increased recovery speed of Ignition Gauge for certain ammo types. Adjusted hitbox of Focus Blast: Wyvern Howl. Faster chaining into Guard after firing Spread Ammo. Increased Ignition Gauge recovery for Pierce Ammo.
- Bow: Fixed an issue where arrows from Arc Shot would disappear if hitting the top of the area.
- Skills: Adjustments to Bubbly Dance (preventing major bubbleblight and granting minor bubbleblight after evading, with increased evasion boost), War Cry (effects now stack with all other effects), Powerhouse (now stacks with all other effects), Burst Boost (increased effects), and Affinity Sliding (increased duration). Shock Absorber adjusted so guarding abilities no longer trigger from ally attacks. Ballistics skill adjusted to increase effective range for Normal, Pierce, and Spread Ammo, with Normal and Spread Ammo now effective at point-blank range from Level 2 onward.
- Support Hunters: Performance adjustments for Alessa and Fabius to reflect Lance changes. Fixed an issue where Support Hunters stopped attacking under certain conditions during underwater hunts.
- Seikret: Increased 180-degree turning speed while mounted. Adjusted dismount timing after successful evasion for earlier dismounts. Adjusted input timing for easier map opening after mounting.
- Miscellaneous System Fixes: Fixed crashes related to item bar actions and network issues (e.g., player disconnects during gesture animations). Increased Guild Points awarded from Limited Bounties. Fixed incorrect messages displaying for Challenge Quest rankings. Locales and Photo Mode issues addressed. Various text and voice line issues fixed.
Director’s Letter Details on Endgame Content:
The implementation of expanded endgame content was moved up from Title Update 3 to Ver. 1.021. This includes new high-difficulty quests featuring 9 monsters. Tempered Monsters (9) of nine species will start appearing in locales at HR 100 or higher. Title Update 3 will further introduce additional 9 monsters in Event Quests.
Capcom acknowledged that the launch difficulty of Tempered Monsters might have felt lacking for veteran players and has introduced a system for more detailed monster parameter customization since Title Update 2 to ensure a challenging experience. The Glowing Stone appraisal item, obtained from 9 monster quests, transforms into an Appraised Talisman with randomly assigned skills, including weapon skills and decoration slots, promoting diverse builds.
The developer also recognized an early-game content skew around Arkveld, which is relatively resistant to elemental damage, limiting build diversity. They have adjusted the difficulty, average hunting time, and rewards for each 9 monster to ensure balanced rewards across all encounters, encouraging players to choose hunts based on their skills and equipment.
Future Plans and Stability Improvements:
Capcom is actively working to improve game stability, particularly for the Steam version. A critical bug causing crashes when player gestures hit another player simultaneously with a communication error will be fixed in Ver. 1.021. The development team is strengthening its checking system to prevent application-side crashes and will investigate and fix bugs promptly.
Regarding CPU usage optimization for the Steam version, Title Update 2 addressed shader compilation bugs and reduced anti-cheat processing load. It also added support for DLSS4 and FSR4. While increasing native frame rate can increase CPU usage, Capcom advises players to adjust graphics options to limit frame rate according to hardware specifications. Further CPU load reduction is planned for the fourth title update this winter, with a second stage of mitigation measures to follow. GPU load reduction will also be addressed similarly.
Capcom expressed gratitude for player feedback and requests, promising to continue sharing development progress through Guild Reports and official social media channels. They assured that various fixes and adjustments will continue through future updates, alongside the implementation of new content. More details on Title Update 3, planned for late September, are expected soon, and Title Update 4 this winter will include new monsters and potential weapon-related endgame features.
