OpenAI has updated the GPT-5.5 Instant model, enhancing its ability to understand context and adapt to user queries. The company made GPT-5.5 Instant the default model for ChatGPT in May, reporting that it produced 52.5 percent fewer hallucinated statements and 37.3 percent fewer factual errors during initial testing.
The upgraded model is designed to improve understanding of user intent and to maintain context across multiple exchanges. GPT-5.5 Instant can now better handle complex questions and address multiple points in a single inquiry. If users provide clarifications or express pushback, the model is expected to adapt more effectively, offering relevant answers rather than reiterating previous responses.
Additionally, GPT-5.5 Instant has improved capabilities for understanding location context. This enhancement allows the model to provide relevant options, such as nearby restaurant recommendations. The model can also generate product recommendations, business information, and display relevant images when deemed helpful.
In a statement regarding the updates, OpenAI highlighted that responses are intended to feel more cohesive and less formulaic. The company aims for users to perceive these improvements in their interactions with ChatGPT.
