Meta is expanding its in-app AI-powered summaries feature on WhatsApp to include unread context across multiple chats. The latest TestFlight build of WhatsApp references this new feature, which will allow users to access an AI-generated summary of unread messages across various chats.
Currently, WhatsApp offers a summary of unread messages within individual chats. This summarization employs WhatsApp’s Private Processing system to ensure user privacy during the process. The new feature aims to streamline the summarization experience by introducing a “Get a summary” button at the top of the Chats tab when users select the “Unread” filter.
WABetaInfo highlights that the app is working on a “unified unread chat summary feature.” While still under development, the feature aims to enhance the convenience of summarizing chats. Presently, users in select regions can generate message summaries by opening a specific conversation and tapping the “summarize” button. This functionality allows users to condense multiple messages into a concise overview, making it easier to grasp the conversation’s key points.
The summarization process utilizes WhatsApp’s Private Processing to generate a secure overview of unread messages, maintaining user privacy throughout. Both iOS and Android versions of WhatsApp are expected to support this feature, indicating a potential release for beta testing or general availability in the near future.
WABetaInfo states, “Although this feature is currently under development and set for release in a future update, it already promises to make summarization more convenient than ever.” This suggests that Meta is actively working on improving user experience through enhanced chat management tools.
