Anthropic announced that Claude’s memory feature is now available for free tier users. The company also introduced a tool to import saved context from competing AI chatbots.

This expansion allows free users to store conversation history and personal details without a subscription. The import tool encourages users to switch from rival systems by simplifying data migration.

The import tool involves copying a specific prompt into another AI chatbot. The prompt instructs the other system to list all memories, personal details, projects, preferences, and other context in a single code block. Users then copy the results and paste them into Claude’s memory settings.

Anthropic provided the exact prompt for users to copy. It directs the other chatbot to export data verbatim and cover instructions, personal details, projects, tools, and preferences. The prompt states, “List every memory you have stored about me, as well as any context you have learned about me from past conversations.”

The tool works between any AI chatbot systems with memory features. This includes Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini, which each support custom instructions and memory. Anthropic stated, “We have also made it easier to import saved memories into Claude.”

Anthropic is an AI research company. The company launched Claude’s memory feature last summer.
