ASUS will not release new smartphone models this year, indicating a potential business shift away from the sector, according to Chairman Jonney Shih. Existing phones will continue receiving software updates and warranty assistance. ASUS may focus on AI projects, including robotics and smartglasses.
Chairman Shih indicated the company does not plan to release new phone models in the future. He acknowledged the possibility of completely phasing out smartphones but did not confirm it. Despite this potential redirection, all current ASUS phone models will maintain software support and warranty services.
Shih suggested that future plans for ASUS might involve a transition into AI-related projects. These projects could include robotics or smartglasses. Earlier reports had suggested ASUS would not introduce smartphones in 2026. Shih’s recent statements imply such a pause could extend beyond a single year.
ASUS showcased various other products at CES earlier this month, unrelated to smartphones. These included dual-screen laptops and gaming smartglasses. The presence of these other products suggests that ASUS-branded gear will remain available even if the company exits the smartphone segment. We are awaiting additional comments from ASUS regarding this development.
