Apple is navigating significant challenges regarding the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies into its products as the company prepares for its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Major announcements related to AI developments are expected at the event, according to The Information.

The recent rise of agentic AI, which can actively control devices and software, presents a key concern. Apple has thus far prohibited the use of vibe coding tools on its App Store due to violations of its policies. These tools have the potential to create original applications that could diminish the need for software from Apple’s App Store, threatening its revenue stream.

Additionally, vibe coding tools raise substantial risks for malware distribution and other malicious activities. Apple aims to maintain control over its App Store while also tapping into the growing interest in agentic AI services.

Reportedly, Apple is working on a system that complies with its stringent privacy and security standards to avoid the erratic behavior seen in some agentic systems, such as OpenClaw, which can inadvertently delete users’ data. A source detailed, “While details couldn’t be learned, its staffers are designing a system to adhere to its standards of privacy and security and prevent the more freewheeling behavior some users of agentic systems have experienced.”

The challenges facing Apple highlight the company’s difficulty in keeping pace with rapid advancements in AI technologies. Observers are keen to see how these issues will be addressed during the upcoming keynote next month.
