Here’s how to add stickers to pictures on iPhone or iPad.
Before you start: Ensure you have the latest version of iOS installed on your device.
A step-by-step guide to adding stickers on iPhone and iPad
To successfully add stickers to your photos, follow these steps carefully.
Add a sticker to a picture on iPhone
- Open the Photos app. You can create your own stickers from subjects in your photos and then add the stickers to other photos.
- Tap a photo. This will open it in full view.
- Tap and hold the subject. For the best experience, use a person or object that has a lot of contrast from the background.
- Tap Add Sticker. The sticker will be added to your sticker menu.
- Open the Photos app and tap the photo you want to add a sticker to. If you don’t already have the photo on your device, transfer it.
- Tap the edit icon. This looks like an abacus (three lines with circles) at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap the pen icon. This will open the Markup menu.
- Tap +. You can find this at the bottom-right corner.
- Tap Add Sticker. This is the second option.
- Select a sticker to add. If you don’t see your newly added stickers, tap the < arrow icon and select the icon with the slightly-folded circle.
- When you tap a sticker, it will overlay on top of the base photo.
- To edit the sticker, tap and hold it to move its position. To make it bigger, drag one of the corner circles outwards. To make it smaller, drag one of the corner circles inwards.
- Tap … next to the sticker to Cut, Copy, Duplicate, or Delete it.
- You can also add sticker effects. Within the sticker menu, tap and hold the sticker you want to edit. A pop-up menu will open. Tap Add Effect and select an effect. Tap Done when finished.
- Add more stickers or tap Done. To add more stickers, tap +, then Add Sticker. When you’re finished, tap Done to save the Markup edits, then Done again to save the photo with the newly added stickers.
Create animated stickers from Live Photos
- Tap a Live Photo in the Photos app. You can create your own animated sticker from a Live photo.
- Tap and hold the subject. For the best experience, use a person or object that has a lot of contrast from the background.
- Slide your finger up and release it. You should see a white outline around the object, along with a pop-up menu.
- Tap Add Sticker. This is the middle option.
- Open the Photos app and tap the photo you want to add stickers to. If you don’t already have the photo on your device, you’ll need to transfer it over.
- Follow the same steps as above for adding stickers.
Add stickers in Messages app
- Open Messages on your iPhone or iPad. It’s the green icon with a white speech bubble inside.
- Tap the New Message icon and select a recipient.
- Tap +. This is on the left side of the text field.
- Tap Camera. This is the first option.
- Tap the Camera Effects button. It’s the star in a circle at the bottom-left corner.
- Tap the round shutter button to take a photo. A preview of your photo will appear.
- Tap the sticker app. Find the sticker you want to use and tap.
- Adjust the sticker’s size and position as needed.
- Send or save the photo by tapping the appropriate options at the bottom.
