Google Photos will introduce a new AI feature called Wardrobe in summer 2023, designed to create a digital closet for users’ clothing and jewelry.
The Wardrobe feature scans the Google Photos library to catalog clothing items by category, facilitating organization and outfit selection. Users can mix and match clothing, share outfits with friends, and save selections to a digital moodboard.
Wardrobe includes a try-on feature, which generates images of users wearing selected items. Thumbnails serve as visual references for each clothing piece in the digital closet. The feature has limitations. Clothing items not featured in users’ photos will not appear in the digital closet, and the AI may incorrectly identify items that users have discarded or donated.
Google Photos Wardrobe will be available starting this summer, with initial access for Android users followed by iOS users.
