YouTube is raising the price of its Premium subscription offerings, increasing costs for individual accounts by $2 per month and for family plans by $4 per month. The price change will be implemented in the June billing period, according to a notification sent to Premium subscribers.

The new pricing for U.S. users will be $15.99 per month for individual accounts and $26.99 per month for family plans. The Lite plan will now cost $8.99 per month, an increase of $1, while Music Premium will rise to $11.99 per month, also an increase of $1.

YouTube stated, “To continue delivering great service and features, we’re increasing your price to $15.99/month. We don’t make these decisions lightly, but this update will allow us to continue to improve Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.”

This price adjustment marks the first increase for YouTube Premium in several years, with the last change occurring in 2022. The service provides several benefits, including ad-free viewing, background play, and offline downloads for both videos and music.

In recent trends, YouTube has seen increasing consumption of podcasts within its app, which integrates well with the background play feature. This shift may also facilitate subscriber growth through additional subscription TV plans offered by the platform.

The price increases are reflective of YouTube’s ongoing efforts to enhance its Premium services and adapt to changing user behaviors. Subscribers can expect these new rates to take effect starting in June.
