Spotify announced the expansion of free access to managed accounts for children under 13, available to parents and guardians in the US, UK, Australia, France, Germany, and the Netherlands starting today. Free managed accounts are currently accessible in some markets and will soon launch in Canada, New Zealand, and various countries in Europe and Latin America.

The company first introduced managed accounts on the Premium Family plan in October 2022. These accounts allow younger users to utilize Spotify with parental oversight, offering personalized recommendations and enabling playlist creation. Videos and Canvas looping visuals are disabled by default, ensuring a focus on audio content.

Managed accounts include multiple safety and privacy features. There are no messaging functions, and profiles are unsearchable and private. Users cannot upload a profile photo but can select an avatar. Explicit content is filtered out automatically, and parents can control which songs and artists are available to their children.

This setup means children’s profiles will not affect the listening recommendations of their parents, leading to a more accurate reflection of adults’ listening habits. To create a managed account, parents should navigate to the Spotify app’s home screen, select Add account, then tap Add a child under 13 or create a managed account. After proceeding, parents can choose to enable videos or explicit content before finalizing the account creation.
