Delta Airlines will implement Amazon Leo for in-flight Wi-Fi starting in 2028, marking a significant shift in its connectivity offerings.

This partnership will initially provide satellite Wi-Fi on 500 Delta aircraft, enhancing the travel experience with high-speed internet access. Delta SkyMiles members will benefit from complementary access to Leo-powered Wi-Fi on flights to over 300 destinations.

Amazon claims its satellite service will deliver low-latency Wi-Fi with download speeds up to 1Gbps and upload speeds up to 400Mbps. This will enable passengers to stream movies and TV shows, play games, and conduct work activities during flights.

Amazon currently operates approximately 200 satellites in low Earth orbit and plans to increase production this year. Delta has also utilized Amazon Web Services (AWS) for its reservation systems, migrating 600 systems to the cloud since 2020.

Last year, Amazon rebranded its satellite network to Amazon Leo to compete with SpaceX’s Starlink. SpaceX has previously secured deals with several airlines, including Alaska Air, United, and British Airways, positioning Amazon in a competitive market.
