Take-Two Interactive has paused development on the Nintendo Switch 2 port of Borderlands 4, the company announced during its fiscal third-quarter 2026 earnings presentation.

The Switch 2 version was originally scheduled for release on October 3, 2025, a few weeks after the game’s launch on September 12, 2025, across other platforms. The port faced an indefinite delay on September 23, 2025.

In a statement to Variety, Take-Two said, “We made the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU.” The publisher added that its focus remains on “delivering quality post-launch content for players on the ongoing improvements to optimize the game.” Take-Two emphasized continued close collaboration with Nintendo and expressed excitement for upcoming Switch 2 titles, including PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K26.

Gearbox Software, the game’s developer, previously attributed the initial delay to the need for “additional development and polish time” and to “better align this release with the addition of cross saves.”

During Take-Two’s fiscal second-quarter earnings presentation on November 6, 2025, the Switch 2 port remained listed with a “TBA” release date. The absence of any update in the Q3 presentation underscores the pause.

Borderlands 4‘s post-release content roadmap includes paid and free story DLC as well as raid bosses. Plans do not mention additional ports.

Separately, Take-Two reaffirmed the November 19, 2026, release date for Grand Theft Auto VI from Rockstar Games. The title was initially targeted for fall 2025 before a delay to May 2026, announced in May 2025. A second delay in November 2025 shifted it to the current date.

The company expressed confidence that Rockstar will begin marketing Grand Theft Auto VI this summer.

Take-Two also reported that Grand Theft Auto V, released in 2013, has sold 225 million units.
