Mark Zuckerberg announced plans for AI agents during Meta’s recent earnings call, detailing the rollout of these tools for businesses at the Conversations event in London. The tool, officially named the “Meta Business Agent,” will allow business owners to delegate tasks such as customer interaction and appointment booking, with capabilities to “close sales” and recommend products while enabling human intervention at any time.
Meta has tested the Business Agents with over a million small businesses in India, Mexico, and Brazil, and the service will now be accessible to any business via WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger. This launch signifies a shift beyond earlier automations for customer replies, as Meta aims for the agents to “eventually help you run your whole business,” which depends on advancements in its AI models.
The company is also developing new capabilities for the agents that will include market research, product insights, calendar management, and competitive intelligence. While these features are not widely available, there is a waitlist for businesses interested in them.
Although the initial setup of the Business Agent is free, Meta plans to introduce its advanced capabilities as part of a subscription model in the coming months. This transition indicates a strategy to monetize the AI functionalities once the platform is more established and refined.
