Sony and Santa Monica Studio have unveiled God of War: Laufey, featuring the character Fey, who is Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother. The announcement occurred during the State of Play broadcast, where developers showcased nearly 20 minutes of gameplay.
The game begins following Faye’s death, as she awakens in the mysterious world of Everywhen after her funeral. She learns that the plans she left to protect her family are at risk, prompting her to navigate through the afterlife of the gods to save them.
Everywhen is portrayed as a realm where various mythologies intersect, populated by gods and magical beings from different pantheons vying for power. Faye will encounter new allies and adversaries, including deities such as Sekhmet and Begze.
The gameplay demo revealed a faster combat system compared to the previous two installments in the series. Faye wields a sword, combines air and ground attacks, and employs magical abilities during battles. Developers aimed to merge the mobility of classic Greek-era games with exploration elements from God of War (2018) and Ragnarök.
Faye will not be alone on her journey. Her companions will include a space cube named Phranque, voiced by Jack Quaid, and a magical ribbon called Rue, which protects her sword.
The game is under development at Santa Monica Studio, with Corey Barlog serving as the creative director. Deborah Ann Wall returns to voice Faye, a role she played in God of War Ragnarök. God of War: Laufey currently lacks a release date and will be available exclusively for PlayStation 5.
