John Ternus, Apple’s new CEO since September 1, 2023, will unveil the highly anticipated foldable iPhone at the company’s fall product event within two weeks of his appointment.

The launch of the foldable iPhone, expected to start at around $2,000, marks a significant moment for Ternus as he aims to establish himself as the face of a new product category. This device will debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, according to reports from Bloomberg.

Ternus previously led Apple’s hardware engineering division and was instrumental in the development of the original iPad. Sources mentioned that the narrative around the foldable iPhone will highlight Ternus’s role, with one stating, “The idea that Ternus drove this whole process will be put front and center during the launch period.”

The foldable iPhone will feature a horizontally oriented internal screen designed for multitasking, reminiscent of the iPad’s layout. Key engineering priorities include durability, performance, a less visible display crease, and usability of the inner screen. The device is reported to have a 7.8-inch inner display and be powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip.

Early supply constraints are anticipated due to the complexities of its manufacturing process, which may hinder availability shortly after its release. Analysts project that Apple will achieve a record December quarter, with revenue nearing $150 billion, partly boosted by the foldable iPhone’s higher average selling prices.

This launch follows a competitive landscape where rivals like Samsung have successfully introduced foldable products. Apple’s design will differ by adopting a wider, passport-like format, contrasting with competitors’ tall and narrow designs. The foldable iPhone remains on track for its September release despite earlier manufacturing concerns.

Ternus’s first full quarter as CEO will align with the holiday shopping season, providing a robust backdrop for the launch. The device’s premium pricing and market acceptance will be critical tests for Ternus’s leadership moving forward.
