LinkedIn is launching a feature that allows users to sort comments by verified members, aiming to encourage more users to authenticate their profiles. The new functionality, detailed in an updated Help Center page, enables users to filter comments on posts to see only those from verified profiles, which are intended to signify trust and authenticity. Users will find the “Verified Members” option alongside existing choices such as “Most Relevant” and “Most Recent.”
The feature aims to improve engagement by helping users focus on insights from trusted professionals. LinkedIn stated that, “At LinkedIn, we’re looking for new ways to help members more easily find authentic comments on posts with large comment volumes.” This move comes as LinkedIn seeks to enhance the quality of conversations on its platform.
Verification on LinkedIn is provided free of charge, allowing users to confirm their identity through third-party partners by sharing government ID information. As of December, LinkedIn reported over 100 million users verified within the app, contributing to a reduction in spam and bot activity.
LinkedIn emphasized that the new feature is designed to minimize distractions from automated or inauthentic comments, thereby ensuring that substantial, human-led discussions are prioritized. The impact of this feature on user engagement and motivation to verify their accounts remains uncertain.
Despite having 100 million verified members, LinkedIn’s total membership exceeds one billion, indicating a significant opportunity for growth in verification rates. Enhancing the verification process could consequently increase LinkedIn’s data stream value, particularly as the platform becomes a notable source for AI training data.
As LinkedIn content earns recognition from AI chatbots, which rely on verified information for responses, the company recognizes the risk that unverified sourcing could undermine this trust. Increasing the proportion of verified user interactions is crucial for maintaining the platform’s credibility and relevance in the evolving landscape of digital communication.
