Meta announced the launch of a new line of smart glasses, named Meta Glasses, starting at $299. These glasses are developed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica and do not feature any Ray-Ban or Oakley branding.
The Meta Glasses are available in multiple countries from today, offering various color and lens combinations. According to Counterpoint Research, Meta and EssilorLuxottica hold a combined market share of more than 80% in the smart glasses sector.
The glasses do not include a screen but are equipped with a camera and personal speakers. A dedicated button on the glasses triggers the Meta AI assistant, which can be customized for different features.
Meta claims the glasses have a battery life exceeding eight hours, and the included charging case adds up to 40 hours of additional usage. The first model, the “Meta Adventurer,” features a rectangular shape and comes in standard and large sizes.
The “Meta Fury” has a boxier design resembling popular men’s styles. Additionally, the “Meta Glasses by Kylie,” designed in collaboration with model Kylie Jenner, features a slim oval frame.
The Meta AI assistant can respond to inquiries about sports scores, local restaurant options, and assist with daily tasks. Upcoming features will include support for “Pedestrian navigation,” providing turn-by-turn walking directions, and integration of 14 new languages for live translation, including Japanese, Mandarin, Hindi, and Korean.
This announcement follows Snap’s launch of their Specs, priced at $2,195, which occurred the previous week.
