The Instagram for TV app is now available on Samsung TVs in the US, allowing users to watch reels and stories on a larger screen. The app, initially launched for Amazon Fire TV devices in December 2022, was later rolled out to Google TVs in February 2023. It organizes reels into channels focused on various topics including music, sports, and travel, making it easier for users to find content that aligns with their interests while watching with friends and family.

In addition to standard features, Instagram is testing two experimental options aimed at enhancing user experience. One feature will enable users to cast Reels from their phone or videos saved in the app to their TV. This aims to facilitate the sharing of amusing or informative content not located in the app’s designated channels. The second experimental feature provides a dedicated home for horizontal videos, allowing for easier access to content better suited for viewing on TVs and computers.

Instagram is also exploring new formats tailored for larger screens, which could be enjoyed collectively. Future developments may include options for creators to produce long-form videos that offer deeper insights on specific subjects. Instagram is investigating the production of episodic series for TV viewing and is working on bringing livestreams to television, as stated in their announcement: “As we explore longer-form, episodic, and live formats, we’re working closely with creators to understand what works best on TV and how these experiences can complement the ways people already use Instagram.”
