Indie.io announced the upcoming launch of Indie Pass, a subscription service for indie games, set to begin on April 13. The service will cost $7 per month and provide access to over 70 titles at launch, with plans to add more games over time.
Indie Pass aims to fill a niche for gamers interested in indie titles, similar to Game Pass but focused exclusively on this category. Competing services like Game Pass Ultimate charge $30 per month, offering a substantial difference in pricing for consumers.
Initial confirmed titles for the service include Echoes of the Plum Grove, a cozy game; Air Hares, a farm-based shooter; and Dark Deity, a tactical RPG. Indie.io stated it promises a “constantly evolving catalog,” indicating ongoing additions to the library. Indie.io is actively engaging with indie developers and publishers to explore potential partnerships, with announcements expected in the coming weeks. The ability of Indie Pass to attract and maintain a diverse game library will be crucial to its success.
The subscription service will be exclusively available for PC users, although it may work on the Steam Deck via the Proton layer, allowing Windows games to be run on the Linux OS of the device. Engadget has contacted indie.io for further details and updates.
