Apple will not release a black variant of the iPhone 18 Pro, according to leaker Instant Digital, marking the second year in a row without this color option for the premium line.
This decision impacts consumer choices for the high-end smartphone market. Last year, Apple omitted a black option for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, instead offering colors such as silver, deep blue, and cosmic orange.
The iPhone 17 Pro featured an anodized aluminum body that was susceptible to scratches, which may explain the absence of darker color options. Scratches were more noticeable on the deep blue finish, prompting speculation about Apple’s color strategy.
Despite no black option, the cosmic orange color gained unexpected popularity, contributing to Apple’s most successful fiscal quarter to date, according to 9to5Mac. Apple is reportedly planning to introduce a “Deep Red” color for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models, the first red variant since the iPhone 14 (PRODUCT)RED. This aligns with an effort to create new color offerings for the brand.
Users seeking a black iPhone will still have the option with the base model of the iPhone 18. In addition, Apple is expected to favor traditional colors like space gray for the rumored iPhone Fold, which is anticipated to debut later this year.
While the current color lineup suggests a conservative approach, there is the possibility that Apple may revise its offerings or introduce new colors for the iPhone 18 series in September.
