ByteDance has paused plans for the global launch of its AI video model, Seedance 2.0, according to The Information.

The decision follows intellectual property concerns raised by Hollywood studios after the model’s February launch in China, prompting ByteDance to address potential legal issues. The Chinese company, parent to TikTok, had intended to release Seedance 2.0 globally in mid-March. This global release is now delayed.

Brief videos generated by Seedance 2.0, including a clip depicting Tom Cruise fighting Brad Pitt, circulated online and drew criticism. Studios issued cease-and-desist letters to ByteDance. Disney’s lawyers accused the company of a “virtual smash-and-grab of Disney’s IP.”

ByteDance responded by stating it would introduce stronger intellectual property safeguards.
