Apple has officially announced the iPhone 17e, the latest addition to the iPhone 17 family designed to offer premium features at an accessible price point. The new model introduces significant hardware upgrades, including a faster processor, enhanced cellular connectivity, and a baseline storage capacity of 256GB, which is double the entry-level storage of its predecessor.

High performance with A19 chip and C1X modem

The iPhone 17e is powered by the A19 chip, built on an advanced 3-nanometer process. This new silicon includes a 6-core CPU that delivers up to twice the speed of the iPhone 11, specifically optimized to handle Apple Intelligence and generative AI models. Supporting the processor is the C1X, Apple’s next-generation custom cellular modem. The C1X offers up to 2x faster speeds than the iPhone 16e and operates with 30% better energy efficiency than the modem in the iPhone 16 Pro, contributing to extended battery life.

Design and durability upgrades

The device features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display protected by the new Ceramic Shield 2 front cover. This glass technology is touted as the toughest in the industry, offering 3x better scratch resistance than previous models along with a specialized coating to reduce screen glare. The aerospace-grade aluminum enclosure is rated IP68, providing protection against dust and water immersion up to 6 meters for 30 minutes.

Advanced 48MP Fusion camera system

The iPhone 17e includes a 48MP Fusion camera that enables high-resolution photography and a 2x optical-quality Telephoto zoom. Key camera features include:

  • Next-generation portraits: Automatic depth sensing for people and pets allows users to apply background blur and adjust focus points after a photo is taken.
  • 4K Dolby Vision: High-definition video recording at up to 60 fps.
  • Spatial Audio: Immersive audio recording designed for playback on AirPods or Apple Vision Pro.
  • Night mode: Improved low-light performance across all focal lengths.

iOS 26 and Apple Intelligence integration

Shipping with iOS 26, the iPhone 17e introduces a Liquid Glass design that modernizes the user interface. The device is built to support the full range of Apple Intelligence features, such as Live Translation in Messages and FaceTime, and screen-aware Visual Intelligence. New communication tools like Call Screening and Hold Assist are also included to help users manage incoming calls and wait times more effectively.

The iPhone 17e is available in three matte finishes: Black, White, and Soft Pink. Storage options have been upgraded to start at 256GB for $599, with a 512GB model also available.
