Rivian has launched a new Apple Watch app that allows EV owners to control their vehicle without needing their smartphone. The app enables users to lock and unlock doors, sound the alarm, and vent windows with a tap on the watch.
For R1S and R1T Gen 2 owners, the app supports passive unlock functionality. Once the digital key is set up, the vehicle unlocks automatically as the owner approaches. Users can also adjust cabin temperature and set a target state of charge by turning the Apple Watch’s digital crown. The app allows customization of four quick-access controls and offers the option to add a battery status indicator to the watch face.
Rivian stated it plans to add more features to the Apple Watch app in future updates. The company first introduced digital car key support for Apple, Google Pixel, and Samsung devices in December. Apple has supported digital car keys on iPhone and Apple Watch since 2020, a standard many automakers have adopted.
