Apple has updated its online store to allow customers to build a new Mac by selecting each specification individually, just like configuring an iPhone. The redesign, first spotted by MacWorld, replaces the previous system of choosing from pre-built options with a step-by-step configurator.
Buyers can now pick their preferred color, display, chip, memory, storage, and even power adapter. The updated interface also enables adding pre-installed software, such as Final Cut Pro or Logic Pro, directly to the new Mac during the purchase process.
This change in the configuration tool may signal preparations for the expected release of upgraded MacBook Pro models. According to MacWorld, rumors point to Apple offering M5 Pro and M5 Max chips with flexibility to select specific CPU and GPU core counts.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the next MacBook Pro lineup could arrive alongside macOS 26.3, with a release window between February and March.
