Reports emerged that Oppo is closing its smartphone brand OnePlus, though OnePlus India’s CEO denies the claims, stating operations continue as usual.

Android Headlines reported that Oppo, OnePlus’ parent company, is shuttering the mobile device brand. This publication later added a disclaimer acknowledging AI assistance in writing the story, while stressing human involvement in investigative aspects. While OnePlus has not issued an official announcement, OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu posted on X, calling the claims “unverified” and “false.” He stated, “We’re operating as usual and will continue to do so.” Android Authority reported that OnePlus’ India-based division confirmed operations in the country would continue “as normal.”

Android Headlines‘ report details information from employees across three continents: North America, the EU, and Asia (specifically China and India). The publication also cited “four independent analyst firms whose market data verifies what OnePlus won’t say,” alongside its experience following the company. The evidence listed includes falling shipments, shuttered headquarters without announcement, ended partnerships, “Western teams gutted to skeleton crews,” and product cancellations such as the Open 2 foldable and 15s compact flagship. Furthermore, every major decision reportedly now originates from China, with regional offices receiving orders rather than strategizing.

This situation mirrors Oppo’s recent restructuring of Realme, according to Android Headlines. An Omdia report cited by Android Headlines indicates that “OnePlus shipments dropped more than 20% in 2024 — from roughly 17 million units to somewhere between 13 and 14 million.” Conversely, Oppo experienced a 2.8% increase. India and China comprise 74% of OnePlus’ shipments, both experiencing market declines. In India, 4,500 retail stores across six states ceased selling OnePlus devices due to thin profit margins. In China, OnePlus’ share, targeted to surpass 3% in 2024, decreased from 2% to 1.6%, according to data from analytics firm Omdia and the International Data Corporation (IDC), as cited by Android Headlines.

Customers with existing OnePlus phones are still expected to receive security updates and warranty support, as promised by Oppo. XDA has contacted OnePlus for a statement.
