Do you want to view your web browsing history on your Mac computer or MacBook? You can easily check your viewing history in a few simple steps. You’ll be able to search for specific websites and find the history for specific days. This guide shows you how to find your Safari, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox browsing history on macOS Ventura, Monterey, and earlier versions.
How to view browsing history on Mac
Follow the steps below for your preferred browser to access and explore your history quickly.
Using Safari
- OpenSafari. It’s the app with the blue-compass icon, usually on the Dock.
- ClickHistory in the menu bar at the top of the screen. A drop-down menu appears.
- ClickShow All History at the top of the drop-down. This displays your entire history organized by date. Alternatively, press Command + Y.
- Click the ▶ arrow next to Last Visited Today to expand today’s history. Expand arrows next to other dates for older entries. Use the search bar in the top-right to find specific sites. Clear History… is next to the search bar if needed.
Using Google Chrome
- OpenGoogle Chrome. It’s the app with the colored-ball icon.
- Click the ⋮ button in the top-right corner. A drop-down menu appears.
- Hover over History, then clickHistory. A new window opens. Alternatively, press Command + Y.
- Scroll down to view history, with most recent at the top. Use the search bar at the top for specific sites. Click⋮ next to a site and select More from this site for related entries. ClickClear browsing data on the left to remove history.
Using Mozilla Firefox
- OpenMozilla Firefox. It has the orange fox icon around a globe.
- Click the ☰ button in the top-right corner. A drop-down menu appears.
- ClickHistory, below Bookmarks.
- ClickManage history. A new page opens. Alternatively, press Command + Y.
- Select a timeframe on the left: Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, This month, or previous months. Scroll to view entries. Use the search bar in the top-right for sites. Right-click a page or category and select Delete to clear.
Once you’ve reviewed your history, consider clearing it regularly to protect your privacy, especially on shared devices. Use the clear options in each browser to remove specific entries or all data from a chosen timeframe. This prevents others from seeing your recent activity.
For future browsing without tracking, enable private or incognito modes in Safari, Chrome, or Firefox. These prevent history from saving automatically. Regularly managing your history also helps recover lost tabs or research forgotten sites quickly.
