If you want to start receiving calls and messages from a previously blocked number, you can easily unblock someone’s phone number on your iPhone or iPad. You can unblock multiple numbers at once from a central list or unblock contacts individually from the Phone, Messages, or FaceTime apps. This guide will show you how to remove a number from your block list on any modern iPhone or iPad model.
How to unblock a number or contact on your iPhone and iPad
You can easily remove a number from your blocked list using several different methods directly on your device, such as through the Settings, Phone, or Messages apps.
Method 1: Using the Settings app
- Open the Settings app, which has a grey cog icon.
- Tap on Phone. You may need to scroll down to find it.
- TapBlocked Contacts to see a complete list of all your blocked numbers.
- TapEdit in the top-right corner of the screen. A red circle will appear next to each blocked number.
- Tap the red circle next to the number you want to unblock.
- An Unblock button will appear on the right; tap it to confirm. The number is now unblocked.
Method 2: Using the Phone app
- Open the Phone app from your home screen.
- TapRecents at the bottom of the screen to view your call history.
- Find the number you want to unblock and tap the small “i” icon to the right of it.
- Scroll to the bottom of the contact screen and tapUnblock this Caller.
Method 3: Using the Messages app
- Open the Messages app.
- Tap to open the conversation with the person you want to unblock.
- At the top of the conversation, tap the contact’s photo or the gray person icon.
- Tap the info button that appears below the contact’s name.
- Scroll down and tapUnblock this Caller to allow calls and messages again.
Method 4: Using the FaceTime app
- Open the FaceTime app.
- In your list of recent calls, find the contact you wish to unblock.
- Tap the “i” icon located next to their name or number.
- Scroll down and tapUnblock this Caller to permit FaceTime calls from them again.
Unblocking a contact immediately restores your ability to communicate with them across all of Apple’s core services. Once unblocked, you will once again receive their phone calls, text messages, and FaceTime requests, ensuring you don’t miss any important or time-sensitive information they might be trying to send you.
Beyond the technical function, managing your block list is about controlling your social and professional connections. Whether you are mending a personal relationship, re-establishing contact with a colleague, or simply correcting a mistake, unblocking someone is a quick way to reopen lines of communication and manage who has access to you.
