Is your Tesla not charging in cold and you cannot get to the new fully automated Mcdonald’s? Don’t worry, you’ve come to the right place! Let us help you with your Tesla not charging in cold problems.

A Tesla owner claimed that his vehicle wouldn’t charge in the cold on Christmas Eve, leaving him stranded. When 44-year-old Domenick Nati connected his Tesla to a supercharger, the temperature was 19, he reported. He had to cancel Christmas plans because the battery still had a 19-mile range after 15 hours.

Two hours passed, but not much had changed, he claimed. “The process was extremely sluggish, and as the temperature dropped, the numbers decreased. It eventually stopped charging completely “Nati threw in.

He made a video about the issue that, according to him, left him stuck on Christmas Eve on TikTok. Let’s have a look at the video he shared on his TikTok account.

How to fix Tesla not charging in cold?

So before we start to explain the solution to Tesla not charging in cold problems, let’s go over for some practices you must take in cold weather if you wish to drive your Tesla in snow.

In case snow and ice accumulated on your door handle, you need to take the precautions listed below.

  • Touch Schedule from either charging or climate control settings and set a timer for when you want your vehicle to be ready for driving
  • Enter Climate from your mobile app and customize the temperature. Doing so will also warm your high-voltage Battery therefore It’s also an important step to fix your Tesla not charging in cold problem
  • If your car is completely frozen, head to the Climate and then Defrost Car in your mobile app

Tesla advises turning on climate controls at least 30 to 45 minutes before departure. Preconditioning timeframes vary depending on the weather and other elements. Once your vehicle reaches the preferred preconditioning temperature, the mobile app will alert you.

Now for the Tesla not charging in the cold

Your charge port latch could become stuck if it is extremely chilly outside or if it is icy. Use the Defrost Car setting in the mobile app if you are unable to remove or insert the charging cable or if the vehicle won’t Supercharge because the latch is stuck in the closed position. This can assist in defrosting the charge port latch’s ice so that the charging cable can be inserted or removed.

Utilizing the Schedule options will also help you avoid charge port latches freezing in place.

When the charging cable is entered, a frozen charge port latch may not keep it in place, but the device can still charge at a slow AC rate even if the latch is not engaged. Tesla owner Domenick Nati’s car’s charge port must be so frozen that he encountered Tesla not charging in cold issue.

There are other charging precautions you must take

The Model S pre-heats the high voltage battery so that it is at the ideal temperature and prepared to charge when you arrive at the charger by using Trip Planner to route to a Tesla charging point. It takes less time to charge as a result of this.

To ensure ideal battery temperature and charging conditions, Tesla advises using Trip Planner to get to a charging spot at least 30 to 45 minutes before arrival.

Steam may be produced by the thermal system in specific circumstances. For instance, while your car is charging at a Supercharger in a cold environment, odorless steam may emerge from the front of the vehicle. This is normal and not a cause for concern.

And that is it for our guide on how to fix Tesla not charging in cold. We hope that what happened to Domenick Nati did not happen to you. If the steps we mentioned in our guide succeeded in solving your problem, we wish you a good trip. Don’t forget, you can now play AAA games on your Tesla thanks to the Tesla Steam integration!
