If you don’t know how to transfer your Signal chats to a new smartphone, we are going to help you out because the application has a specific feature just for this purpose called transfer account.
Signal has added the ability to import chats from one smartphone to another by direct connection via Wi-Fi Direct, as long as you have the two devices next to each other.
How to transfer Signal chats to a new smartphone using transfer account?
You need to have both smartphones at hand, as they will connect to each other via a secure connection under Wi-Fi Direct and, in addition, you need to make settings and verify a code in real-time.
The process starts on the old mobile, where you already have the Signal account set up. In Signal, you need to go into the settings and enter the Chats section. Then go to Transfer account section.
The process continues on the other device, the one you want to import all your Signal data. You need to install Signal and not set up any accounts. Instead, on the welcome screen, tap Transfer account. From the options that appear, choose Transfer from Android device.
This will bring up the same window you have on the original smartphone, where you will need to tap Forward. Press Forward on the old phone as well and wait for a while. You will then see an invitation which you will have to accept.
To verify that you are importing the correct account, a verification code will be displayed on both smartphones. The code should be identical in both cases.
The account and messages will then begin to be transferred from one device to the other, this process may take a while depending on the size of your messages. The application recommends you keep both phones close to each other. That’s it, after the process is finished you can start using Signal on your new smartphone as before.
