Apple has officially confirmed that its next-generation Siri AI, powered by Apple Intelligence, will not be released for iPhone and iPad users in the European Union due to severe regulatory roadblocks under the Digital Markets Act (DMA).
EU regulators reject all compliance proposals
Despite spending months drafting technical solutions to meet local laws while protecting user privacy, Apple stated that EU regulators rejected every single proposal. As a result, the feature will be halted on the upcoming iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 updates, and there is currently no official timeline for a European release.
There is a surprising Mac loophole
This regulatory standoff means European mobile users will be completely locked out of several highly anticipated AI capabilities:
- Dedicated history app: A new application to easily view and manage past Siri conversations.
- Visual Intelligence: Advanced real-world visual recognition, search, and analysis.
- Integrated writing tools: System-wide text generation, proofreading, and editing capabilities.
- Camera integration: The new Siri mode built directly into the native iOS Camera app.
Interestingly, this massive restriction only applies to Apple’s primary mobile platforms. European users will still be able to access the new Siri AI features on Mac computers, Apple Vision headsets, and Apple Watches through the upcoming macOS 27, visionOS 27, and watchOS 27 updates.
