OpenAI has announced the release of its new GPT-5.5 model, which it claims is the most advanced version yet, following the launch of GPT-5.4 just one month ago.
The introduction of GPT-5.5 marks a significant milestone in OpenAI’s efforts to enhance AI capabilities in coding, research, and document management. The new model is designed for improved efficiency, enabling users to delegate complex and ambiguous tasks without needing to oversee every detail.
OpenAI stated, “Instead of carefully managing every step, you can give GPT-5.5 a messy, multi-part task and trust it to plan, use tools, check its work, navigate through ambiguity, and keep going.” The company also highlighted that GPT-5.5 features its strongest set of safeguards to date and operates with significantly fewer tokens necessary for Codex tasks.
The rollout of GPT-5.5 will begin Thursday, across various tiers of ChatGPT including Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise, as well as Codex. The Pro version will specifically be available for Pro, Business, and Enterprise users.
This launch occurs amidst heightened competition with Anthropic, which has recently debuted the Claude Opus 4.7 and Mythos Preview models. In response to these developments, OpenAI released GPT-5.4-Cyber, aimed at addressing cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Both firms are strategically positioning themselves in the AI coding and enterprise tools market.
Additionally, the timing of GPT-5.5’s release is noteworthy, occurring just days before a widely publicized trial involving Elon Musk and OpenAI executives including Sam Altman and Greg Brockman.
