Anthropic is poised to release Claude Opus 4.7 and a new AI design tool, potentially as soon as this week, according to a report from The Information. The announcement follows insights from a source familiar with the company’s plans.
The launch of Opus 4.7 marks an incremental upgrade from Claude Opus 4.6, which was released in February. The previous version featured enhancements in coding capabilities, agentic task execution, and the introduction of a one-million-token context window. Internal API references to Opus 4.7 have emerged, suggesting a near-term introduction that has fueled anticipation among developers.
Claude Opus 4.7 differs from Claude Mythos, a more advanced model that Anthropic has designated as too sophisticated for general access due to cybersecurity issues. The company maintains a dual-track strategy: while Opus 4.7 will be publicly available, Mythos will remain under controlled access as part of Project Glasswing, with a broader release targeted for a May event in San Francisco.
The anticipated AI design tool will enable users to create websites and presentations using AI technology. Following news of its development, shares of design software companies such as Figma and Wix experienced declines. This shift positions Anthropic in direct competition with established design platforms amid ongoing AI-driven transformation in the software sector.
This year, the S&P 500 Software and Services Index has plummeted nearly 26%, influenced by worries about AI tools diminishing demand for traditional software products. Previous launches by Anthropic, including the Claude Cowork assistant and sector-specific automation plugins, similarly resulted in significant selloffs in software shares in February.
The design tool underscores Anthropic’s expansion into visual and creative workflows. The company has forged a partnership with Figma to streamline the conversion of AI-generated code into editable design files and has integrated Claude into Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Notably, Anthropic has introduced major updates approximately every two weeks since January 2026, encompassing new models and enterprise integrations.
The week of April 14 is expected to be significant for AI advancements, with OpenAI also poised to announce updates and Meta planning to host the LlamaCon event within the same timeframe.
