GoPro has launched its new line of flagship cameras, the Mission 1 series, which offers enhanced video quality over the Hero 13. The series features three models: the Mission 1, Mission 1 Pro, and Mission 1 Pro ILS, all equipped with a new one-inch 50-megapixel sensor and the GP3 processor, enabling up to 8K video capture.

The introduction of the Mission 1 series aims to reclaim market share in the action camera sector, which has been declining due to competition from brands like Insta360 and DJI. GoPro’s senior VP, Pablo Lema, stated, “The combination of our new 50 megapixel one-inch sensor and ultra-efficient GP3 processor sets a new performance bar for compact cinema cameras.”

All models in the series support up to 8K video, with the Mission 1 Pro providing higher frame rates. The Mission 1 Pro ILS features an interchangeable lens mount for Micro Four Thirds lenses, enhancing versatility for users.

The Mission 1 includes a 159-degree native field of view, the widest in its category, and an OLED rear display that is 14% larger than previous models. It also has larger buttons designed for use with gloves and a removable lens hood to minimize glare.

The sensor’s large pixels improve low-light performance, reportedly achieving a dynamic range of up to 14 stops. The GP3 processor supports high-resolution video up to 60 fps at 8K and allows for various recording formats, including 4K at up to 240 fps and 1080p at an impressive 960 fps.

Battery life is enhanced with the new Enduro 2 battery, which allows for over three hours of 4K recording per charge. Thermal capabilities enable up to 37 minutes of continuous 8K recording without airflow and 74 minutes with airflow, maintaining performance even with prolonged use.

The cameras offer multiple intelligent capture modes, including subject tracking, underwater stabilization, and various frame rates to cater to different environments. Audio capabilities include a four-mic system with 32-bit float recording and wind noise reduction.

Additionally, GoPro is introducing a new Wireless Mic System that provides 24-bit audio quality and a 150-meter wireless range, designed for easy pairing with the Mission 1 cameras. Other accessories include a Media Mod kit, Point-and-Shoot grip, ND filters, and a range of chargers.

The Mission 1 cameras will be available individually and as part of kits, including the Mission 1 Pro Creator Edition and Mission 1 Pro Ultimate Creator Edition, which include various accessories. Pricing and availability details will be provided later.
