Apple is expected to announce its next iPhone SE model as early as next week, with sales beginning later in February, according to Bloombergreports. The announcement may occur on the company’s website rather than at a launch event.
New iPhone SE features and specifications
The upcoming iPhone SE is anticipated to resemble the iPhone 14, featuring a larger screen, Face ID, and an A18 chip, which will enable it to utilize Apple’s Apple Intelligence software. This model is set to be the first iPhone equipped with an in-house cellular modem developed by Apple, replacing Qualcomm’s components.
Sources indicate that the new iPhone SE will also include a USB-C port, allowing Apple to sell the model in the EU, as the existing version does not comply with local regulations requiring this charging standard. This new iteration will reportedly have a single rear camera and is projected to have a price point of approximately $500, a notable increase from the 2022 iPhone SE’s starting price of $429.
Inventory levels of the current iPhone SE 4 have reportedly diminished in several U.S. retail stores, a common sign preceding a product refresh. Retail employees have noted that customers seeking the device in particular configurations are occasionally turned away due to low stock. Some versions are still available online but may face delays in shipping.
Apple’s iPhone business has faced challenges, with a 1% decline in device sales during the recent holiday quarter. The company is counting on the new entry-level smartphone to help revitalize growth, particularly in overseas markets such as China and India, where Apple’s presence is expanding. Although Apple’s sales in China fell 11% in the last quarter, growth was observed in other emerging markets.
The new iPhone SE, identified by the code name V59, is crucial for Apple as it seeks to appeal to price-sensitive consumers while incorporating high-end features. The redesign will symbolize the complete removal of the traditional home button, a feature present since the original iPhone’s launch in 2007.
In addition to the new iPhone SE, Apple is rumored to be launching a thin model called the “iPhone 17 Air,” along with significant updates for the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro. The announcement of the iPhone SE will coincide with the introduction of new PowerBeats Pro 2 earbuds, which are expected to have a built-in heart rate monitor.
Additional product launches are anticipated in 2025, including a MacBook Air featuring a faster M4 chip, new low-end iPads, and updated iPad Air models. Apple’s inventory for existing models has been declining, reflecting potential updates on the horizon.
