Sony has launched a new initiative called The Playerbase, allowing fans to apply for face scans for use in PlayStation 5 games. The first title to implement this feature will be Gran Turismo 7, where a selected fan will appear as a time-limited character.

The Playerbase initiative aims to engage PlayStation enthusiasts during a challenging period for the brand, which has recently faced negative news, including a price increase for PS5 consoles. The initiative will be available to players in “select markets” worldwide.

Participants can apply through a designated webpage to potentially have their likeness included in Gran Turismo 7 or future games. The application process involves answering questions about PlayStation experiences, logging into a PlayStation Network account, and completing a video interview.

Reports indicate that Sony may prioritize applicants with a significant history of PlayStation gameplay, suggesting players with high Trophy counts might have an advantage in the selection process.

The announcement comes amidst reports of a delayed launch for the PlayStation 6, originally scheduled for 2027, with indications that it may not feature a built-in disc drive. Sony’s move with The Playerbase comes as a response to the current challenges, aiming to rekindle excitement among players.
