Text messages between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg reveal a shift in their previously contentious relationship, with Musk expressing interest in collaborating on a bid for OpenAI.
The messages, sent on February 3, 2025, were disclosed in documents related to Musk’s lawsuit against OpenAI. They highlight Zuckerberg’s acknowledgment of Musk’s initiatives through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and his offer of support against threats to Musk’s team.
Zuckerberg texted Musk, stating, “Looks like DOGE is making progress. I’ve got our teams on alert to take down content doxxing or threatening the people on your team. Let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help.” Musk responded positively with a heart emoji.
Following this exchange, Musk proposed the idea of bidding on OpenAI together, suggesting they could collaborate with others. Zuckerberg showed interest in discussing the proposal further but did not ultimately agree to join Musk’s bid.
This change in dynamics marks a notable development in the relationship between the two tech leaders, who had previously been at odds, with Musk famously challenging Zuckerberg to a cagefight in the past. The release of these texts coincides with Zuckerberg’s recent appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast, where he criticized the state of corporate America.
Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg are prominent figures in the tech industry, with Musk being the CEO of multiple companies including Tesla and SpaceX, while Zuckerberg leads Meta Platforms.
