Meta Platforms Inc. is reportedly preparing to reduce its workforce by up to 20 percent, according to a Reuters report.

This potential reduction could impact a significant portion of Meta’s nearly 79,000 employees as of late 2025, signaling a substantial restructuring effort for the technology company.

Top executives have instructed senior leaders to begin planning for personnel reductions, Reuters reported. The exact date and number of layoffs have not been finalized.

Meta’s employee headcount reached 78,865 as of December 31, 2025. The company reported nearly $60 billion in revenue for the fourth quarter and over $200 billion for the entire year.

A Meta spokesperson described the Reuters report as “speculative reporting about theoretical approaches.”

Earlier this year, Meta laid off approximately 1,000 employees, notably within its Reality Labs division. In early 2022, the company reduced its workforce by about five percent, following a previous round of firings that same month.

Concurrently, Meta has invested in AI startups, including Moltbook, a social network for AI agents, and Manus, which focuses on AI agents for task automation.
