Use the Google Sheets mobile app to edit spreadsheets on mobile devices such as Android phones, iPhones, or iPads. Install the app from the App Store or Play Store to open spreadsheet files in an editable format. Install the Google Sheets app from the Google Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS).
Have a Google account ready to sign in.
If your spreadsheet isn’t in Drive, install the Google Drive app and upload the file first.
How to edit spreadsheets in Google Sheets on mobile
Follow these steps to open a file, edit cells, and apply formatting using the mobile app.
Opening the spreadsheet
- Upload your spreadsheet to Google Drive if it’s not already there:
- Open the Google Drive app.
- Tap the + button at the bottom-right corner and select Upload.
- TapBrowse and choose your file.
- Open the Google Sheets app (green paper icon with a white grid).
- If prompted, tap Sign in at the bottom-left and log in with your Google account.
- Tap the folder icon at the top to open the file browser.
- SelectMy Drive, or Shared with me if the file was shared:
- You can also tap a sharing link from an email or notification.
- Tap the spreadsheet file to open it for editing. Changes auto-save, and tap the back arrow to exit anytime.
Editing a cell
- Double-tap a cell, or tap once and then the pencil icon at the bottom-right, to open the keyboard.
- Type your data directly into the cell, or enter a formula in the fx bar above the keyboard.
- To format text, long-press inside the cell and choose options like:
- B for bold.
- Underlined A for text color.
- Horizontal lines for alignment.
- Tilted paint can for background color.
- A icon for more options.
- Tap the green checkmark to close the keyboard and save.
Formatting multiple cells
- Select cells by tapping one and dragging a blue corner handle to cover the range.
- Tap the A icon at the top to open the formatting menu.
- On the Text tab, apply:
- Bold, italic, underline, or strikethrough.
- Alignment (left/right/center, top/middle/bottom).
- Font size, color, typeface, or rotation.
- Switch to the Cell tab for:
- Fill color for backgrounds.
- Borders customization.
- Text wrapping, merging cells, number formats, or decimals.
