Google Ads marked its 25th anniversary on October 23, 2025, with a statement from Vidhya Srinivasan, VP/GM of Ads and Commerce, reflecting on the platform’s history and its current trajectory. The initiative began 25 years ago with the objective of using digital platforms to foster business growth. Srinivasan noted that the success of its varied customer base, which includes mom-and-pop shops, startups, and global brands, has been the guiding principle for Google Ads since its launch.
Over the past two and a half decades, the platform has introduced several key technologies. The company highlighted breakthroughs such as the initial implementation of keyword-based Search advertising, the industry-wide shift to mobile-first advertising, and the debut of video ads on YouTube. The integration of Google Analytics was another significant development, offering businesses more detailed performance insights. Subsequently, Google Ads incorporated AI-powered campaigns to help automate and optimize ad performance.
The company is currently focused on leveraging generative AI to transform its digital marketing tools. Srinivasan stated that Google is leading this effort with the development of agentic capabilities, automated campaign optimization, and advanced creative generation. According to the company, these AI-driven features are designed to enable businesses of any size to scale their creativity, identify new audiences, and connect with customers globally.
Srinivasan articulated the company’s philosophy on effective advertising, stating, “The truth is, the best ads are just answers. They are opportunities for inspiration that respond to people’s challenges, questions and curiosities.” The announcement emphasized that AI foundations now allow the platform to deliver these “answers” more quickly and effectively. Search and YouTube were specified as the primary platforms where this process of discovery and decision-making takes place.
The achievements of the past 25 years were attributed to thousands of employees as well as the advertisers, publishers, creators, and users who have engaged with the platform. In the statement, Srinivasan extended a message of gratitude to all stakeholders for their contributions and included a pledge to “make the next 25 even more memorable.”
