This guide will show you how to sync iMessages and text messages between your iPhone and iPad. You can choose to sync messages using iCloud, which keeps all your iMessages, MMS, RCS, and SMS texts synchronized across devices, or use Text Message Forwarding as an alternative if you prefer not to use iCloud storage or if you encounter syncing issues.
How to sync messages between your iPhone and iPad
Here are the steps to ensure your messages are synced across your Apple devices.
Method 1: Sync messages using iCloud

- Tap your Apple Account at the very top of the settings menu, next to your profile picture.
- Tap iCloud in the middle of the page, next to a blue cloud icon.
- Tap Messages. If you do not see Messages, tap See All next to the Saved to iCloud header.
- Toggle on “Use on this iPhone” or “Use on this iPad” at the top of the page.
- Wait for Messages to sync to iCloud. This may take some time depending on the number of messages you have.

Method 2: Forward messages to iPad (Alternative to iCloud)

- If you do not see Text Message Forwarding:
- Turn off “iMessage” by tapping the switch near the top of the menu, then toggle it back on.
- Tap Send & Receive.
- Sign in again with your Apple Account.
- Ensure your iPad is signed in with the same Apple Account as your iPhone.
