Sony is entering the fighting game controller market with Project Defiant, an arcade-style fighting stick designed for PlayStation 5 and PC. The device was teased during the recent State of Play event, with additional details revealed in a subsequent blog post.
A key feature of Project Defiant is its wireless connectivity via PlayStation Link technology. Sony highlights that this technology offers “ultra-low latency,” aiming for responsive gameplay. For those who prefer a wired connection, the controller also includes a USB-C port.
The device features a custom-designed digital stick developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is equipped with buttons utilizing mechanical switches, providing tactile feedback. Project Defiant also incorporates a touchpad, similar to the one found on the DualSense wireless controller.
Further customization is offered through interchangeable restrictor gates for the stick, with square, circle, and octagon options included. The controller comes with a carrying case designed with a lever gap, intended to protect the digital stick during transport.
Sony plans to release Project Defiant in 2026. The company stated it will provide more details, including the official name of the device, in the “months ahead.”
