Google’s Android 16 beta 2.1, released on February 27, has led to significant battery drain issues for some users, prompting them to charge their phones twice daily.

Google’s Android 16 beta 2.1 causes battery drain issues

Multiple Android 16 beta testers have reported serious battery drain issues on Reddit since installing beta 2.1. This problem appears to be widespread across all eligible Pixel devices.

Some users have stated that battery life has deteriorated to the point where they need to charge their devices twice in a single day. One user shared their experience: “To really drive this home. I’ve had about 1 hour and 32 minutes of total screen on time usage today. Unplugged around 9 am, and my current battery life is 63 percent. I hope they fix this soon. It’s to the point where I don’t even want to use my phone for any extended periods of time.”

The accelerated power depletion issue initially started with beta 2.0, and it was expected that beta 2.1 would address this bug. However, the release seems to have exacerbated the problem for some users.

Conversely, a few users have reported that beta 2.1 resolved the battery drain issues caused by beta 2.0. One user indicated that their battery was at 57% after logging over five hours of screen time, suggesting improvements in their experience with the new beta.
